La dernière édition de cette publication date de fin janvier. Non seulement cela constitue la plus longue période sans mise à jour de nos perspectives de taux d'intérêt, mais la période à examiner comprend également les événements de taux d'intérêt les plus notables de ces dernières années – c’est la raison principale du retard de notre publication.
Les banquiers centraux du G10 ont dû admettre ces derniers mois qu'ils avaient sous-estimé le rythme des hausses de prix, mettant un terme très brutal à une politique extrêmement accommodante de longue date - à l'exception de la Banque du Japon, qui est la dernière banque centrale à poursuivre une politique ultra-accommodante.
Bien que les taux d'intérêt à long terme augmentent en parallèle, du côté européen, l'écart entre le Bund et le BTP se creuse. Dans un avenir proche, quelques mois seulement après la suppression progressive du PEPP, la BCE devra à nouveau revenir au mécanisme d'achat d'obligations d'État pour faire sortir les rendements de la partie longue de la courbe. Dans le même temps, l’ère de taux d'intérêt négatifs devrait s'achever vers la fin de l'été, si la BCE remonte son taux directeur consécutivement en juillet et septembre.
L'inflation fait également transpirer la Fed. Jerome Powell a eu son « moment Volcker » avec une hausse historique des taux de 75 points de base, alors que la porte à d'autres sauts importants a été ouverte après une nouvelle publication de l'IPC plus élevée que prévu en mai. Lors de sa dernière audition au Sénat, le président de la Fed américaine a indiqué qu'une récession n'est plus tout à fait inimaginable. Les banquiers centraux naviguent actuellement dans des eaux très agitées. Espérons que le cours suivi soit le bon.
